Oracle JDK 11 (LTS) End of Life: Sept 30, 2023 Deadline

Updated 3rd Party Support Team

The Six-Month Window for Oracle JDK 11 (LTS)

Oracle JDK 11 (LTS) reaches end of life and end of active support on September 30, 2023. As a Long-Term Support release, JDK 11 is widely deployed in enterprise infrastructure, running applications that require thorough validation before any underlying platform changes. The latest version in this line is 11.0.31, but after September, no further security patches, bug fixes, or updates will be provided by Oracle.

With six months remaining, the window for a comfortable migration is closing.

Working Backward from September 30, 2023

A standard enterprise migration takes significant time. When factoring in procurement cycles, change freezes, and testing, six months shrinks to just a few weeks of actual deployment time:

  • Months 6 to 5: Application auditing and dependency mapping to identify every system relying on JDK 11.
  • Months 4 to 3: Code updates, compatibility testing, and QA. Major Java version jumps often require refactoring deprecated APIs.
  • Month 2: Procurement cycles for new licensing or support contracts, alongside pilot deployments in staging environments.
  • Month 1: Production rollout, which must maneuver around existing change freezes and end-of-quarter business operations.

The Risks of Missing the Deadline

Running Oracle JDK 11 past its end of life date without a support contract introduces security vulnerabilities. Unpatched Java runtimes are known targets for exploits. Running unsupported software also violates many compliance frameworks and internal security policies, leading to failed audits.

Removing the Deadline Pressure

If your migration timeline is extending past the September deadline, you have alternatives to forcing a rushed deployment. Securing Oracle software maintenance through a third-party support provider allows you to keep JDK 11 running safely past the vendor's cut-off dates.

Third-party support provides ongoing security patches and technical assistance for version 11.0.31 and earlier. This removes the immediate deadline pressure, allowing engineering teams to migrate on their own schedule—or choose not to migrate at all if the legacy applications remain stable.

How we can help

Keep it supported after end of life

The vendor's date doesn't have to be yours. Our engineers keep Oracle JDK 11 (LTS) running after official support ends — independent third-party support that covers most operational issues, typically at 40-70% below the last renewal quote.

Migration services

When you do decide to move, we plan and execute the migration. Your current environment stays under vendor support while your contract is active — and if the renewal lapses mid-move, our third-party support covers most issues until the last workload is off it.

Migration & hybrid cloud services →

24×7 remote administration

Short on hands to run it day to day? Our NOC engineers monitor, patch and administer your environment around the clock — incident response included, at a fraction of the cost of an in-house night shift.
