Windows 10 22H2 Ending October 14, 2025 – Support Options

Updated 3rd Party Support Team

The Countdown Is Real: Windows 10 22H2 Ends on October 14, 2025

Microsoft Windows 10 version 22H2 (build 10.0.19045) reaches end of life on October 14, 2025. That is roughly six months from today. This is not a Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release — after that date, there will be no more security updates, bug fixes, or technical support from Microsoft for this version.

For IT teams still running Windows 10 22H2, the clock is ticking. The comfortable window for a smooth migration is closing fast. Here is a realistic look at what the next six months actually mean for planning, procurement, and risk management.

A Realistic Migration Timeline Worked Backwards from October 14

A typical enterprise OS migration involves testing, procurement, change freezes, staged rollouts, and user training. When you subtract all of that from the deadline, the time left for decision-making is far shorter than six months.

  • Now – End of July 2025 (approx. 6–8 weeks from today): Finalise your target OS version (e.g., Windows 11 23H2 or 24H2). Complete pilot testing of critical applications and hardware compatibility. If you are planning to stick with Windows 10 via Extended Security Updates (ESU), you must already be in procurement conversations.
  • August – Mid-September 2025: Begin staged deployment. Many organisations impose a change freeze in late Q4 (often starting mid-November through January) for financial close and holiday periods. To beat that freeze, you need at least two months of active deployment — meaning you must be rolling out by August.
  • Mid-September – October 2025: Final wave of legacy systems. Any device not migrated by October 14 will immediately become unsupported.

If your organisation has multiple regions, compliance requirements, or complex application portfolios, add 6–8 more weeks. That pushes the decision deadline to June 2025 — essentially now.

The Risks of Running Past October 14 Without Support

After October 14, 2025, Windows 10 22H2 will receive no patches from Microsoft — not even critical security fixes. Running an unsupported OS exposes your organisation to:

  • Unpatched vulnerabilities: Threat actors actively scan for systems that no longer receive updates. Without new CVE patches, every day of continued use increases risk.
  • Compliance gaps: Regulatory standards (PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOX, etc.) require supported software. Auditors will flag any instance of an EOL OS.
  • Operational black holes: No phone support from Microsoft, no knowledge base updates, no hotfixes for new hardware or driver issues.

Microsoft does offer paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10, but those only cover the Enterprise and Education editions — and they are priced per device, per year, and only available for a limited period (typically 3 years). ESU does not include bug fixes or non-security updates, and it requires a support contract with Microsoft or an authorised partner.

How Third-Party Support Removes Deadline Pressure

If your migration timeline is stretching past October 14 — or if you have good reasons to stay on Windows 10 22H2 for another 12–18 months — third-party maintenance provides a practical safety net.

At 3rd Party Support, we deliver security patches and technical support for Windows 10 22H2 after Microsoft’s end-of-life date. This lets your team:

  • Migrate on your own schedule, without rushing through testing or skipping change freeze windows.
  • Avoid the per-device cost and limited scope of ESU — our support covers all editions and includes bug fixes, not just security patches.
  • Maintain compliance for as long as you need to stay on the current version, while you plan a lower-pressure transition to Windows 11 or an alternative.

Third-party support is not a reason to delay indefinitely — but it is a responsible way to protect your environment while making a thoughtful, well-tested move.

Your Next Step

The decision deadline for Windows 10 22H2 is effectively now. If your organisation has not started planning for the October 14 end of life, the window for a comfortable migration is nearly closed.

How we can help

Keep it supported after end of life

The vendor's date doesn't have to be yours. Our engineers keep Microsoft Windows 10 22H2 running after official support ends — independent third-party support that covers most operational issues, typically at 40-70% below the last renewal quote.

Microsoft software support →

Migration services

When you do decide to move, we plan and execute the migration. Your current environment stays under vendor support while your contract is active — and if the renewal lapses mid-move, our third-party support covers most issues until the last workload is off it.

Migration & hybrid cloud services →

24×7 remote administration

Short on hands to run it day to day? Our NOC engineers monitor, patch and administer your environment around the clock — incident response included, at a fraction of the cost of an in-house night shift.
